MSX-1
The first generation, the start of a great project, the MSX wanted to revolutionate the computer systems, 15 years ago was incredible to exchange a simple disk between two different computers, the computer world was a chaos, the standard of nowadays in the electronic products did not exist, so then you could not exchange a simple computer tape. The MSX was the piooner in entering a computer standard to avoid the computer incompatibility. With a few rules the firms could make compatible computers and then put the MSX logo in the computer to certify that the computer is acording to the MSX rules.
In 17th June of 1983, Tokyo, the MSX was presented officially and the radios a TV channels were very expected to see the new standard. Microsoft develope its BASIC and ASCII take the rules of the standard.
After the presentation we will tell about the technical points, the MSX-1 is an 8 bits computer, with a simple Z80 running at 3.6 Mhz, supported by several specific processors, aV9918a VD with good characteristics, 32 colours (internally), 16 in screen, 32 sprites on screen, and 16 Kb VRAM.
MSX has a great sound, with a PSG processor MSX-1 can generate complex sounds and four channels, three of them of music, this is possible thanks to the AY-3-8910 chip. MSX-1 has a PPI processor to control external devices and two expansion slots.
MSX has a great BASIC with powerful instructions ready to control directly VDP, Z80 and all the connected devices, and several macrolanguajes for graphics and sound.
